No not at all, I question all the numbers coming out of the government, I'm a Libertarian, after all. <g> If the government would lie about a war that killed tens of thousands of people, why wouldn't they fudge some economic numbers? Wouldn't it be in their interest to have people think the economy is doing better than it really is, so for the "sheeple" to keep spending and spending? Remember, we are a nation of spenders and debtors, not savers, so in order to keep things going, we are told to keep spending for the now, the heck with the later.
Plus, have you ever looked deeper into the BLS numbers and the "economic assumptions" that go into the job reports, inflation numbers, etc? The "Birth/Death" modeling alone has created in excess of 100k jobs in some reports. The whole "ex food and energy" in the the inflation numbers are ridiculous, unless you live in a cave, food and energy is going to matter in your economic situation.
So we Americans, in recent times, need assets bubbles to keep the money and spending going. We got a huge stock bubble in the 1990's, and then moved on to the housing arena. What is left to inflate?
You and the other posters here on SI are probably smarter than most and are in a much better financial situation than the rest of America. But, the rest of America counts and what affects them, will affect us, like it or not.
