I'm not so sure. I get the feeling Java will prevail with
or without MSFT on-board. They aren't supporting the SUNW
initiative now because they want to do SUNW any favors.

I'm sure they would like to hook customers with their own
"flavor" of Java then introduce something else that "does
the same thing as Java, except better". This strategy has
been referred to as "Embrace & Demolish" by other MSFT
observers on this thread. It seems to be an appropriate
label.

SUNW might as well line up support for pure Java & ignor
the bleatings of MSFT, INTC, CPQ, & DEC.
