Re: "The drawdown of the American troops was possible partly because of participation of allies"
Not to leave the false impression that allies took over at the end of the war, of course.
Re: "American forces had proven to be ineffective in the steamy jungles of Vietnam, anyway, and many of them were unwilling fighters!"
Well, aside from ways in which we refused to fight the war as we were capable of (as I noted), many of them were taking jungle breaks in spots where they would sit down and lie back against the trunk of "trees" which were actually marijuana plants 18' tall, lol. Truly, a great number of troops learned to smoke marijuana from the free sources in Vietnam.
Re: "to say nothing of the lives of the enemy combatants"
And to say nothing of the lives of Vietnamese Friendlies. This is something which helps account for the delay in leaving Vietnam, aside from "tricky Dick's..Verisimilitude...hubris...disregard for the lives of soldiers, to say nothing of enemy combatants"
Let's not forget to say nothing of the murdered after we left. Can we count them?
Now, not only DID we find WMD programs in Iraq (just no stockpiles), but even if we hadn't, if you think someone lied about it, the liar must include intelligence agencies the world over and most all of our politicians (you guys throwing that "lie" word toward Bush never do answer to this over-riding reality which DOES implicate Clinton, Kerry, France, England, the U.N., and etc. in the lie, were you correct). That conspiracy to lie doesn't exist to our knowledge. The belief of the world intelligence community pre-Iraq War simply wasn't driven by the Bush Administration, let alone the Clinton Administration which agreed with the Bush Administration. Do you think otherwise?
It's apparently true too that Joe Wilson literally reported back to the CIA after his trip to Niger that Iraq had tried to buy Yellow Cake there in '98. It's apparently true that Joe Wilson explained why he concluded a document was forged by saying the names and dates were wrong, yet he'd not seen the document himself, COOULDN'T have had personal knowledge of this, and ADMITTED this by way of apology to the bi-partisan Senate Select Commitee investigating this. Joe actually reported back to the CIA that the Prime Minister told Joe that he believed Iraq sought Yellow Cake when it asked to increase trade with Niger. The CIA, after debriefing Wilson after his trip to Niger, actually felt his report bolstered the case that Iraq had sought Yellow Cake, though skepticism remained elsewhere.
Oh well...CHOMSKY, eh? I've gone out of my way to hear him speak live in person. I thought I had an open mind. I found him saying many things I agreed with on his way to fully expressing his thought. I listened attentively and soon was angered, concluding he had made grandios false leaps of logic repeatedly, and that he is a master bullshit spinning machine spewing the stinkiest bile of apparant deception I've ever heard live in person from anyone in my life.
