The West really needs to get the heck out of meddling in the ME. It meddles badly, creates all kinds of misery and, even after all this time, doesn't understand the region AT ALL.

What is it we don't understand?

That we should use explicit threats of force to prevent other governments from doing bad things to one another?

Maybe it's just that YOU can't understand the ME, or the fact that there is social upheaval taking place as the region comes to terms with a baby boom, peaking oil production, and an antiquated and oppressive political, religious and social system.

Maybe we should just stop "meddling" in the Arab-Israeli peace talks, despite the fact that the only progress that has been made there is the result of US meddling..

Or maybe we shouldn't be "meddling" in Lebanon as we pressure Syria to stop IT'S meddling there..

What I *DO* understand is that you DON'T understand the cost of Lassez-Faire isolationism.

If we don't meddle to promote democratic values, someone that doesn't respect those values will.

But I guess you don't believe spreading democratic values is worth fighting for, right?
