It's hard to argue that Cheney's statement below does not conflate Iraq and 9/11 (which is probably why upwards of 70% of the Us population at one time believed the two were connected. That belief just didn't materialize out of thin air.)

The heart of the geographic base of terrorists that had us under assault was really Saudi Arabia. But let's not let facts get in the way of this administration...
