My Question: "Why are blacks disproportionately incarcerated for drug crimes?"
Your response: "First off, cops pick on black more often than white, or haven't you noticed. Second, pot use is a greater part of the culture, here in the U.S. and elsewhere. So perhaps their usage is higher. You can go back to the early 20 and before in the United States. Black's smoked pot then. Jazz musicians were most often cited as smokers. But mostly, I think it has to do with racism, because, as far as I can tell, there's no shortage of white pot smokers. So you go figure it out why more blacks are thrown in the slammer for smoking pot."
I have seen the accusation that Police interact with and investigate blacks more than whites. I have seen no evidence that this is disproportionate to the crimes being committed by the racial groups. Either may be true.
If marijuana use is more integrated with the culture, why given that it is illegal don't honest and honorable blacks discourage its use? You would think that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be giving speeches to blacks telling them to cut it out and obey the laws so they can advance on their own.
"But mostly, I think it has to do with racism,"
If you wish to engage in a discussion on this, your next step would be to provide evidence of your charge. Yes, I noted that you were merely expressing your opinion. I try to base my opinions on facts (with mixed success). <g>

You have restated the question. |
