LOL. What can I say? I have to learn this stuff since I have lyme. And anyway I write on stuff like this sometimes.
Terry apparently works in the biz or related biz or why would the guy know so much?

It isn't easy to understand but let me see if I can do a translation. Basically microbes whether viruses (which are renegade DNA or RNA in my opinion--ie broke loose at some point--mutated), bacteria, or fungi, have evolved over zillions of years and evolved truly sophisticated mechanisms to infect us and survive and be passed on.

Some of these mechanisms involve hijacking our own cell's receptors to downregulate, upregulate, or otherwise change our body's terrain to better suit their invasion, perptuation, etc.

Borrelia is known to screw with Toll-like receptors 2 and 4. It probably does that along with a lot of other stuff to make the host compatible for it as it invades almost all your tissues, and especially likes collagen, nerve cells etc.

Viruses incorporate themselves into your DNA at times and in fact can be passed on.

It all is pretty cruddy if your the suffering host, but in the bigger picture, its part of the creativity of evolution. Some of us may get killed off by these infections, others adapt, given our genetic variability, and still others may actually work synergistically to create something more complex and better adapted--thats truly the creativity and unfortunately occasional destruction of evolution...it allows for all the myriad life forms but lots of stuff gets tossed in the process.

Luckily for us we evolved big brains and we're doing our best to figure it out and hijack our systems back from the bugs.

BTW why did I not buy some OTM calls on GOOG (I have some shares) ugh ugh ugh ugh...........

Anyway. Non-buyers remorse.
