VLO earned $2.30 in the month of October alone. that annualizes to $27.60, giving VLO a runrate PE of under 4.
most of the PE estimates you see are based on lowballed earnings estimates. using 12.51 earnings as a basis for valuing VLO here is imo ridiculous, unless you think the company is a bunch of liars.

personally, i have naively believed them for several years since i started buying them at a share price of $12.50.

it strikes me as very ironical that the market always takes the worst way of looking at earnings when it comes to energy companies, and takes the best pie-in-the-sky scenario (pro forma earnings estimates for 2008) when it comes to tech stocks.
