Chalk One Up for Blackboard (ICGE owns 2.23m shares as of 6/30/05 worth 64m at current prices)

Blackboard (BBBB:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer's Take) rose 4% late Tuesday after the education software outfit guided toward stronger fourth-quarter numbers.

The Washington-based company made $7.3 million, or 25 cents a share, for the quarter ended Sept. 30, up from the year-ago $3.5 million, or 16 cents a share. Revenue rose to $35.9 million from $30 million a year earlier.

For the fourth quarter, the company guided toward earnings of 25 cents or 26 cents a share on revenue of $35.1 million. For 2005, the company expects to make 91 cents a share on revenue of $135 million, against expectations of an 88-cent profit on sales of $135 million.

Blackboard shares rose $1.10 late Tuesday to $29.
