Thomas, we are getting peaked out with space hogging features. They take so long to learn that the incidental user would be happy with wordpad to write letters with. Delays are troublesome to some, I endure them, but at some point I buy a local drive/faster modem etc.
So this balance will be settled personally by each user. However I think bloat has slowed down a great deal.
The fall will sustain the momentum, prices will fall, gateway will struggle as will Packard Bell, Dell will be OK, but his numbers will fade shortly before christmas as the local boxmakers capture christmas, Compaq will lose a lot of share too as the winter arrives. And at the same time business avoids purchases for about 6 weeks around christmas. After Christmas, all chickens will come home to roost.Home sales will crash and the Wintel boxes will see a drop in absolute terms. NCs and game+ boxes will make inroads, and will grow apace. With the high tech in decline, a general route will ensue. Money will return to the golds and juniors in exploration.
