Excerpt:
While coal prices have risen this year, coal is still substantially cheaper than oil or natural gas, and few in the coal industry believe conversion projects like the one being pursued by Peabody will be jeopardized by falling gas prices.

Peabody said coal-conversion projects can be profitable with benchmark Henry Hub gas prices at $5 to $6 per million British thermal units - about half of today's price of December gas futures traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange. "Our long-term view is that the U.S. faces scarce (gas) supplies," Svec said.
