BATAVIA – About 50 Batavia High School students walked out of school Wednesday to protest the war in Iraq and were greeted with $25 truancy tickets.

The walkout that occurred before classes began coincided with the anniversary of President Bush's re-election.

Batavia senior Paul Cofer organized the demonstration after reading anti-Bush and anti-war Web sites. He already served a one-day in-school suspension for displaying fliers announcing the walk-out without school permission.
