Cheney types lied about Saddam-Al Qaida connections. While there may have been some scant morsels of evidence, Iraq was inhospitable for Islamic extremists in general. Saddam ran a secular dictatorship which often persecuted religious fanatics. All Al Qaida members are religious fanatics, kind of like David Koresh types with beards.

What Cheney was saying would be as if gay rigthts activists were to take sanctuary in Terry Randall's house. Saddam and Al Qaida were for the most part opposites, and even enemies.

However, since Bush said "bring it on!" many Al Qaida types and new recruits have streamed into Iraq to kill and attack us.
