I'm not changing the subject. I have posted the information to back up my suspicions that DU when inhaled or ingested as a fine particulate causes birth defects. The article is not "junk". It's superficial, but much less superficial than your posts are- so by comparison, I guess I would have to say the article is "deep".
If the troops (and the Iraqis) are contaminated with DU, as they appear to be, and if DU binds with DNA, which we know it does, then birth defects are a likely result of DNA contamination. I can't imagine our government cheerfully investigating this (and they are not), but there is much more in the UK, and European press about it. While there is controversy about it, it's nowhere near settled, and I don't think we (or the government) know what the health effects of all that DU dust floating around populated areas in Iraq will be.

"The military is aware of DU's harmful effects on the human genetic code. A 2001 study of DU's effect on DNA done by Dr. Alexandra C. Miller for the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, indicates that DU's chemical instability causes 1 million times more genetic damage than would be expected from its radiation effect alone, Moret wrote.
Dr. Miller requested that questions be sent in writing and copied to a military spokesman, but did tell AFP that it should be noted that her studies showing that DU is "neoplastically transforming and genotoxic" are based on in vitro cellular research.
Studies have shown that inhaled nano-particles are far more toxic than micro-sized particles of the same basic chemical composition. British toxicopathologist Vyvyan Howard has reported that the increased toxicity of the nano-particle is due to its size. "
I'm pretty sure you don't know what the subject is though. It's not about the article (as I've made pretty clear)- I just posted the first Du article I came across- there are many, from all over the world. The subject is the ISSUE of DU. You can, of course, define the subject as the article, or narrow it any way you want to, but since I brought it up, and I envision the subject differently, we'll probably disagree on your idea of what my subject is. |
