And even more important than "oil", it's about the survival of democractic ideals and denying a fanatical and militant enemy the ability to control our economies., Nope. It is about imposing democracy on them. Just like the Ruskies imposing communism on countries. Just like China imposing it on Tibet. Ain't no difference between imposing democracy and communism, except we are the "good guys", so that makes it ok. Wrong. And, it's wasn't about democracy in the first place. Only oil (and empire). You said it right there... "denying a fanatical and militant enemy the ability to control our economies". Over here, we call that "oil".
