Your observations are worthy of our notice. And we are worthy of receiving them.

You are quite correct, I think, to point out that what that "now" represents is a contraction of a kind. I would call it a representation of one of the three poisons: attachment, aversion and ignorance. And in this case it's attachment.

But the mind is what it is and always will be. Short of becoming buddha oneself, poison will arise....continuously. The question is whether and how we recognize the true nature of what is arising and how do we liberate ourselves from it? And since we are to a certain degree hardwired into the dualistic nature of our universe, our capacity to liberate ourselves from what you call contraction is limited--which is not to say we cannot try, and even be relatively successful from time to time--only that we should not be beating ourselves up for our failures.
