Since women are still confined to producing babies, and NOW have to do all the work men do besides, I'd say the movement was less than a success.

Many women came to have unrealistic expectations. That is a shame.

I guess if you define success as giving women the "opportunity" to do everything they used to do, AND do a job besides, then you've got a success.

Yes, they have a choice. Before we didn't have a choice. Now we do. That's success.

And with women out of the home, parenting has suffered as well

I was in this at the beginning. I don't every once remember anyone stating better parenting as an objective of the movement. Never. No bumper stickers about that. No chants about that. That's not what what it was about.

The unexpected consequences of the women's movement have been so great I'd be happy to throw it out, and go back and start over.

You define success of anything by how well it meets its objectives. Whether it contributes to society overall is another matter. If you plan a trek to Mecca because you always wanted to see it and you manage to sneak in and take some photos, your mission is a success. If by going there you set of WWIII, your mission was still a success. A success with disastrous fallout.

It would be interesting to analyze whether or not the women's movement, on balance, was a good thing or not. There were certainly some undesirable side effects. The worst, I think, is the added difficulty of keeping up with the Joneses. You really have to be frugal to have only one income.

P.S. I had turned off the recording I was watching on TV to respond to this post. When the recording stopped and the TV show came up, it was the start of a Nascar and they kicked it off with a prayer specifically to Jesus. I suppose I should have expected that but I didn't.
