The problem for Canadians is that you did trust us, and now the US won't repay the $5 billion.

Yes, well, we did, and I guess that's why the percentage of Canadians who now don't have any trust is so large. Once bitten, twice shy. It seems incredible that the U.S. is still fighting to avoid returning the money.

The more I find out about NAFTA, I can't understand why Canada ever ratified it.

I think the problem is that Canadians trusted our Prime Minister (Brian Mulroney) and his cronies to sign a deal that would be fair for Canada. Unfortunately, in the years since Mulroney left office, it now seems apparent that he didn't negotiate with Canada's best interests in mind. I doubt that was due to stupidity on his part. He always was a bit of a closet Yank and spent a lot of time down in the U.S. hobnobbing with his power-monger pals. Need I say more?
