There is nothing free about free trade. The US will insure that. Martin has raised i% rates to make sure the US will not find cheap CDN goods and tax them or claim subsidies. A self defeating strategy against the flying eagle. Free trade is la la for CDN polyannas cooked up by US sharpsters who knew they could defect and decided not to pay. When are they going to pay the 10 billion? Well, Russia has similar debt with the states from 1890 or something like that. They have never said they would not pay, but they are taking their time. With the US, it's takes us to court again, and we are 10 times bigger than u, so whadja goin to do about id? I say as insurance as this keeps happening we build some big boats, go to Europe and Asia, and develop trading relationships that are to our advantage. We sold all our high quality iron pellets in Europe in the 1950's to 1980's. We had better get insurance to do so again. As far as Cars go, Autopact was our salvation. It was not free trade. But it helped make the CDN auto industry. NOw with the big 3 on the wane it will go by the board. Will Asian deals be as sweet? No way. Toyota and Hyundai may build assembly factories but it is jobs for hunkies, not good economic benefit to Canada. Why Canada does not build its own autombiles. Why does Canada not invest in itself? Because if it does the big market to the south will not buy it. They would not buy our passenger jet, or Avro Arrow, our MacGlaughlin Buick, etc.. but they buy our power and raw materials because they have to. Wood, copper, gold.
