Gary, I'm an idiot!!
I replaced the two files which were more recent than mine, from the zipped .dll stuff you provided. Still the same result. I even went so far as to replace my wsock32 file with your older version!
In disgust, when the drop-down box appeared for me to enter the ID/PW, I didn't bother, but simply pushed cancel. Voila, the download started. Just when this new development occurred in the replacement process, I do not know. Previously, I always did what the drop box asked, and re-entered the stuff. That got me into the loop, and pushing cancel after the loop started did nothing but extend the loop.
Anyway, the bug you need to fix now is the appearance of the drop box at all, when the ID/PW are correct.
Oh, by the way, that's not the only bug you need to fix re this thing. After pushing cancel and having the program proceed to the downloading, I got a message that September 11 data was not available, and was this a holiday, etc. (I had previously updated my files via the alternate site you set up, and Sept 11 was the first date not updated). I went to the alternate site, and Sept 11 was available there, so the downloader still has a glitch with my system, because I am further along in the process but I am still not able to d/l successfully.
???????????????
