All that imposing democracy stuff is just a front for the real objective...controlling the oil. They want "democracy" to make it safe to get to the oil.

And let me guess, Al Qai'da DOESN'T want the oil?

Let's be real here.. Iraq and Saudi Arabia are major oil states.

Chechnya (where there is another major insurgency) is also a vital oil transit and refining area...

Afghanistan.. is the primary route for building a pipeline for natural gas to be transited between Kazahkstan, Turkmenistan, to Pakistan and India.. Which is why Unocal was trying to work a deal with the Taliban back in the late 90's to build a pipeline through there..

Here's the deal.. By claiming you think the US wants to "control" the oil, then it logically follows that you..

1.) Don't believe Iraqi oil belongs to the Iraqi people as a nation, and they have no right to derive the benefits of via a democratically elected, thus accountable, government.

2.) That you believe Iraq's oil resources should be placed back into the control of a minority ethnic group which plunder the wealth to build monuments to their own grandiose delusions of ethnic elitism.

3.) That it's better to permit the Islamic militants to control oil production and where the benefits/revenues from it are distributed. (Funding Jihad, Madrassas, and putting a death grip on the Global economy)

And speaking of grinning, I just have to grin when I see people like you make the empty claim that somehow the US is "controlling" Iraqi oil. IF that were the case, we wouldn't be paying MARKET PRICE to the Iraqis for their oil. We'd be receiving a discount, or even free oil from them.

So here we are.. paying MARKET PRICE for the oil, even though we're spending hundreds of Billions to provide security and reconstruction to Iraqis.

That doesn't sound like we're TAKING control..

What is REALLY HAPPENING is that we're PREVENTING that oil from falling under the control of an OPPRESSIVE AND NON-ACCOUNTABLE DICTATORSHIP (religious or secular)..

So wake up and smell the coffee.. If someone else wasn't trying to control the oil and use it as a weapon against us, then we wouldn't give a crap.

that forcing democracy upon a people at the point of a gun is a little weird though.

I take it you MUCH RATHER prefer Islamic Militants forcing a Caliphate at the wheel of a suicide car bomb??

Well, I guess we just have a difference of opinions.
