Social and cultural integration in France seems to be especially difficult. I suspect much of the difficulty lies in the French attitude that French culture is simply superior to every single culture on earth. And at one time, they were probably correct. Times change, however.

It is very ironic that Muslims are probably much better treated in the US than they are in France despite the French support for the Palestinians, opposition to Iraq, anti-Semitism, etc.
