My Landcruiser, evil SUV that it is, only gets half the gas mileage of my Saturn. But it carries twice the people. So shouldn't the two cars be taxes equally?
Heck, maybe the Partidge Family should have gotten a subsidy.
Then, maybe we ought to divide every highway even further than it already is divided, not just HOV lanes. The right hand lane should be for cars with one person. That should have the highest toll. Then, the next lane should be for cars with two people. The left hand lane, for more than two people, could be free.
And maybe we could start a laziness tax. Anyone that lives within a mile of their workplace shouldn't even be allowed to drive to work. Make 'em walk.
Heck, come to think of it, there's no reason why an automobile should go faster than 75 miles per hour, either. Put a speed governor on every single car that prevents it from going above 75. That should save some gasoline, too.
And while we're at it, there's a ton of waste that happens in the home. Put a meter on people's thermostat. If they ever turn it above 75 in the winter or below 65 in the summer we could double the tax on their energy use. That would save energy, too.
Gosh, there are lots of taxes I could think up with consistent logic. |
