[EDIT] Mag .. CandlePower by Nison does not really go into detail on the 8to10 other than to say that afterward .. expect a correction to the original trend ... which "MUST" be confirmed with a Powerful Reversal Candle Formation. Not a run of the mill one. [Those are my own words not a quote from the book]

I've found it to be my favorite formation. As if you couldn't tell. :)

I don't know if it's explained more in depth in his Newer books or not. His first one was not very replete with explanations. I just have looked at this particular pattern in depth everytime I find it.

And of course they go in both directions .. New Price High .. and Low. Basically .. an Overbought or Oversold.

I use 8to10nph and 8to10npl because it's so easily searched on SI .. It's basically My Baby. :^D

[EDIT] I like the DeCat .. or Dead Cat Bounce too. The 8to10 seems to work better when it falls into a Large % Gain OR Loss from the Bottom or Top.

In the Case of BABY .. it went for 18 days .. before showing confirmation of a Top. This is not a Powerful Reversal Formation either.

Hope that helps.
