"Current reality" would be one thing... (like a political poll, it is merely a snap shot in time).
But I was referring to the totality of the historical record, which is not in much dispute. The two largest "desert religions", Christianity & Islam, have been around a LONG time, many, many wars have been launched in their names, many, many repressions... and BOTH are still evangelizing and expanding globally.
The two *largest* global religions, expanding and contesting with each other in many places, have also been in significant conflict with each other many, many times in the past.
The 'current' situation is not so unique.
(As Mark Twain once famously said: "There are at least one hundred thousand 'gim-crack' religions in the world. Each, and every one of them claims that they, and they alone, have the 'one true way to heaven'." He went on to observe: "They can't ALL be correct." So is religiously inspired conflict so difficult to understand, under the circumstances?) |
