Ms. Traut, I am very much in agreement with the potential for NCs in this kind of corporate environment... but then I have been a big fan of X-terminals for years for the very same reason. The cost of ownership issue, while muddy, is a very real one and can easily dwarf the acquisition cost of the box itself in a short time.

The market I am selling into is distribution, which is pretty conservative. Lots of these companies have a hard time being convinced that anyone other than managers and such really need PCs or anything graphical. They rightly ask what use a mouse is for receiving goods on the loading dock. I am expecting over the next couple of years to be telling my customers that they just need to think about each user and decide whether that user has any real need for computing which is separate from our application software. If not, then an NC or X-terminal is obviously preferred.
