Well, we shall see. If you ask me Israel may never achieve peace with its neighboring Muslim countries as long as it remains a religious state rather than a state which treats all religions and people of all religions equally. But who knows, lets check again in 200 years....

As for occupying lands, don't forget, after WWII we the ALlies cobbled together both Iraq and Israel, and we've had trouble in those parts ever since. Oil, war and religion. Bad mix.

I think the Brits have a lot more of that blame for poor segmentation that the US, and oil wasn't the major factor until the early 1970's and the OPEC price hikes.
