Carter was a nice, well meaning guy. I always liked him. But too soft for the US society. He could have been successful in Sweden. Or even more so in Finland, had he only been fluent in Russian. Didn't he go to Poland once and say (due to poor translation) that he had an "erotic feeling" for the Polish people?
