He wasn't "too soft". In fact, he was extremely strong because he remained firm to his strong convictions inspite of the pro-war US society. It's much easier to go to war, than to find better alternative solutions. A weak person would have rushed into war to appease the public. Only a "strong" person has the ability to go against the grain of society. Carter is a very, very strong person. Regards, Amy J
