Yup. And not only did they sound like us, they also started to remold Iraq in a similar way as we are doing now. Two big differences, though. One, they didn't have a civil war like we are seeing now. Two, and it might be related, the Brits brought in 1 British subject for every 19 Iraqis. We have a ratio of 1 to 179...

Niall made an interesting observation. He went to DC in the early days of the planning for Iraq. No one he talked to knew about the British experience in Iraq. He asked one planner what model they were using for reconstructing Iraq. The planner told him the model was the banking system of post-communist Poland...
