Great posts Buddy, just goes to show the realist are coming out. As more and more people start understanding the facts about the drug war and what a destructive waste it is more will come out against it. I'm going to check out some of the news people in your posts. I still haven't made up my mind about joining the Libertarians but every time I turn on the news the party sounds better and better.

IMO the reason that those statistics in favor of legalization aren't even stronger is because of parents not wanting their children to smoke pot. That's a good reason on the surface but looking deeper that attitude doesn't really hold water.
Drugs are in the schools now and people that don't accept that are just living in a dream.

The fact of the matter is that the majority of people out there have smoked pot. You could hardly have gone through college in the 60s and on up with out being exposed. That makes it hard to talk honestly to their own children about pot smoking without making them feel like a hypocrite. Children and young adults are very sensitive to hypocrisy, do what I say not as I do (or did) never sits well with them and usually drives a wedge between child and parent. This tends to expand the rebellious attitude that is a natural tendency of teens and hence also making them more apt to smoke and or worse use other drugs. It's even worse when the child finds out that many of the people they know that indulge in smoking aren't lazy, brain dead, dumb or any of the many epithets they've heard used to describe people that smoke. I could easily argue that keeping pot illegal only serves to perpetuate these myths.
