I said we went to war to protect values. I include all wars in which we went to war--and all values which justified those sacrifices. So why aren't you doing something about genocide in Sudan? Some of those values are: loyalty to allies We're an ally. Aren't we? I think the US relationship with Canada is about on par with its relationship with Britain. Maybe better. We're in Iraq. They're in Iraq. Where are you? Values? This may be THE clash of values since the Enlightenment. And you're playong hookey. This is where I have to give it to the Brits: They stood up to be counted. Protection of freedom and democracy Like welching on Iraq? Belief in individual rights Like welching on Iraq? And the safeguarding of Canadian citizens from the threat of foreign invasion. We're the only likely source. We're you're only neighbor. I think a US gov't that invaded Canada wouldn't stand. Impeachment or revolution. Any other country faces the fact that you are a member of NATO and in taking you on they take us on plus the rest of Europe. Pretty lousy odds. Canada does not stand alone in the world. We are part of a network of allies whom have shed blood together more than once in the past. No man is an island says a Donne poem. And that is what Remembrance Day is all about... Exactly. If Canada is attacked, we're in. That's the agreement. So are the Brits, another bad bunch to tangle with.
