NOVL betting their future on JAVA....oh!! s*it.
They think they have $1 billion in short term investments and no debt so they can afford to take this chance......what a sad way to see a company fail.

On the +'ve front regarding JAVA:

It is one hot mother of all programming languages. I signed up for a JAVA course at U of Toronto last week - a first at the university. There are over 1000 people registered in the course with no space left. The prof., a well respected lecturer in the Comp. Sci. community
tells us that JAVA will probably last five years before it is replaced by something else and told the undergrads not to expect to become JAVA programmers once they gradate.

On the -'ve front regarding JAVA:

We have had Corel announce that they have stopped development of their JAVA based application until such time that they can make it run faster...fat chance given JDK 1.1.4 and the resource hog applets are known for. MSFT recently started removing applets from its web pages although I think they may be doing it for other purposes so as not to lose Windows market share.

God help us all. Our Dr. mindset seems like it is still with SUNW.
Did Scott McNeally and our Dr. conspire to develop all future Novell products in Java so as to show support for JAVA BIG TIME ?
Lets hope that NOVL betting on JAVA for all future development is not doing so to displace MSFT Windows or doing so to support the interests of SUNW.

If you are betting on JAVA, then better to invest in SUNW than NOVL.
At least if JAVA fails for whatever reason, SUNW will still have something to fall back on ..... loyality payments and the manufacturing of servers and workstations. NOVL will only have us small but dedicated shareholders to fall on....as if we have not been under their weight before.
