The issue is not moot. Going forward we should not make any moronic decisions like that again, so it is very important that we understand how the stupid thing was done, and how to prevent the stupid thing from happening again. Often there is resistance in human systems to figuring out stupid things, because no one wants to be blamed for them, not the people who do them, and not the people who should have been managing the oversight of the people who do them- but that doesn't mean we let the stupid people just move on, because if we don't do some quality control, we'll get the whole damn stupid thing all over again.

That's why it isn't moot. It won't ever be moot. It may, eventually be resolved, when we figure out how to prevent this in future, but moot, no.
