I admit his argument is a little weak. Since listening to him, I've been googling his stuff. I agree with him on an awful lot of stuff, but I just don't buy the need for the US to become an overt empire.

This particular article plays on one of my great fears. If international trade were to break down, and our level of technology starts to slip, it is going to go all the way down to 16th or so century level. And stay there because there just aren't many exploitable resources available at that level.


Anything is possible but I really think it will require a major catastrophe to push us back to say the 16th century. Global warming gone amok or a sizable meteor crashing into the earth or a major plague or several nukes exploded on an unsuspecting population. Otherwise, I think humans are far too tenacious and resilient.

I believe the talk of the need for global American hegemony stems from the need of some people to have control. For them, a world without a controlling power in place is a world out of control.
