The problem is that it takes pretty close to our level of technology to exploit the available resources. We smelt ores and drill oil that we couldn't exploit 100 years. We do it because we have to, the easier stuff is gone.


That might explain why we never get back to this level of technology. However, I don't think that's even true. First I don't believe all the books explaining the processes needed to extract these resources will be destroyed completely no matter the catastrophe. Secondly, isn't need the mother of invention?
