"What contract?" In terms of Britain it was an act of citizenship. We were British citizens until 1947--and the Queen is still our head of State. en.wikipedia.org Even if one could successfully argue a legal independence (which they can't for the period in question)--one could not separate Canada from a moral obligation to the British Commonwealth of which we remain a part. "There's a problem here. You expect 70-year-old men to fight wars?" How about a 45 year old man? Why not draft them first? They have experience and judgement to beat the band... "Has it EVER been otherwise?" NO.
