AMAT Applied Materials: Expect strong Jan Q order guidance as strong end markets support health capex; Reiterate Outperform - Thomas Weisel (17.96 )

The firm expects AMAT to meet or beat its Oct quarter revenue and EPS estimates of $1.63bn and $0.14 respectively. The firm expects Oct Q gross orders to exceed its estimate of $1.56bn, also likely exceeding the high end of guidance of $1.47bn-$1.62bn. The firm's checks suggest Oct Q order strength is driven by flash and Taiwanese DRAM. The firm expects AMAT to guide Jan Q orders to $1.70bn-1.78bn, or 9-14% above the firm's current Oct Q estimate. The firm expects Jan Q rev and EPS guidance to slightly exceed the firm's current estimates of $1.73bn/$0.17. Based on recent industry commentary offered by front end peers (ASML, LRCX, KLAC and TEL) and proprietary checks which suggest to the firm that semi investment confidence is improving, the firm continues to expect AMAT will enjoy 4-5 quarters of sequential positive order growth, supporting its above-Street FY06 revenue growth estimate of $8.00bn.
