Dead wrong. Communism is the opposite of liberalism. There is a myth on the right that social programs (ie Canadian style socialism, which works just fine in Canada) = socialism a la communism. But don't confuse the two.

Communism has more in common with rightwing dictatorships.
They are both militaristic police states run by an elite one-single party. Like in Saddam's Iraq or Naziism.

Liberal governments are super democratic and give power to the people. Communists give no power to the people. They lie to the people and dont count their votes. A little big like a certain rightwing government we have in the US now.

In northern Europe and Canada they limit the power of greedy monopolies like Big Oil and don't let the super-rich class control everything. Liberalism and socialism agree in that the rich should pay higher tax rates to help take care of the most needy. That is actually a very Christian notion and is proven to work. Communism and rightwing dictatorships hoard all the money at the top with party leaders controlling it.

Get the diff? It's a huge one.
