(AP) -- Avant Immunotherapeutics Inc. shares climbed Monday after the vaccine maker said it was devoting resources for the development of a mass-scale bird flu vaccine. Shares of Avant rose 16 cents, or 10.7 percent, to $1.62 in morning trading on the Nasdaq. Shares have traded between $1.09 and $2.47 in the past 52 weeks. The company said it formed a research team to focus on the development of a bird flu vaccine that can be kept at room temperature using its virus vector and preservation technologies. Avant said the effort and others will be funded by the $50 million generated by the May sale of rotavirus vaccine Rotarix rights to Paul Royalty Fund II.
