A couple of questions, ionesco....

You said:
The people I know, who are mostly left and center, will never think this war was a good idea, if the US was not threatened, because they don't think there is any other justification for unilateral invasions of another country- and there is no discussion on that. It just is what it is.

I ask: Then what were we doing in Bosia?

I ask: Then why were we lobbing missiles to Somalia and a few other places? centerforsecuritypolicy.org

I ask: Did you not think we should honor our treaties when Hitler invaded Poland, and the rest of Europe? Japan hit us, Germany didn't. Of course, Hitler did kill Millions of people, but maybe some of the folks in the US didn't care. (Actually I doubt that, from many of the letters I've read, both my own family letters, but from the letters collected by Andrew Carroll in the several books of Letters from various Wars....) I think most thinking people of that time, cared deeply, and supported the effort. Would we today?

And you mentioned another non-inflamatory topic: Schools and Education.

I was most surprised to see our local Middle School had very few books on American History in their library when I went to vote last week. The Librarian said she had been "weeding them out, to be "age appropriate"...(I personally think this sounds a bit like censorship)....but then she said: Our District has American History (a unit) in the 5th grade, a tiny bit of American History in the 8th grade "civic's" course (Middle School), and American History as a Jr in HS course.

Is that typical for public schools these days? I know in the Private Schools, that is not typical. Eventually, all students wherever they went to school, graduate and all compete for the same jobs in the workforce. Plus, of course, they vote.

What is your take on American History for K-12 kids?
