Leverages Existing IT Knowledge and Moves from Direct-Attached Storage to an iSCSI SAN Through Deployment of IPStor Software
NAGASAKI, Japan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 2005--FalconStor Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FALC), a leading developer of network storage software solutions, today announced that Nagasaki University, a leading educational institution in Japan, has implemented FalconStor's IPStor® software solution to simplify and consolidate its storage environment. The project was coordinated by JIP Techno Science Corporation, and the installation was assisted by FalconStor partner Next IT Inc. Serving over 9,000 students and the faculties and administrations across eight academic disciplines, IT administrators at Nagasaki University were facing escalating management issues with their existing direct-attached storage environment. On the lookout for a more efficient and cost-effective solution, Nagasaki University followed recommendations by JIP Techno Science Corporation and chose FalconStor's IPStor software to facilitate a new iSCSI storage area network.
"FalconStor's IPStor software solution is proving to be a solid and critical IT foundation, easing our storage upgrade gradually, as well as our day-to-day administration," said Professor Koga of Nagasaki University. "With the FalconStor solution, we are employing not only our existing IP network and expertise, but our current storage investments as well."
Nagasaki University and Next IT designed an iSCSI SAN solution with IPStor software that leveraged its existing Dell PowerEdge and EMC CLARiiON CX storage systems, while enabling the seamless addition of a CLARiiON AX system into its storage environment. The University is utilizing its iSCSI SAN for its portal site system, e-Learning system (WebCT) and its database application, and its storage infrastructure now delivers the necessary performance and application availability required by its end users.
"FalconStor met the University's needs since it allowed their IT administrators to use their existing IP expertise and network skills, while enhancing data availability for its students and faculty in demanding, resource-constrained IT environments," said Mr. Noboru Aoki, FalconStor Japan sales director. "Nagasaki University joins a growing list of technologically sophisticated learning institutions that rely on FalconStor solutions to improve application uptime, reduce storage infrastructure complexity, and lower administrative costs."
