Spoke to Mark today about article. I asked him if New Screen was thinking about moving right now. He said that they did not get to choose the title of the story...the business journal did. He said to remember that the Orlando Journal wants to sell news papers, so they wanted a headline that would be an attention getter in order to sell papers. He said it worked because they had already had quite a few calls from local viewers that were afraid New Screen was leaving. He said that actually, the only reason they would leave would be if New Screen outgrew the current building/parking. He said that it's not a problem now, but it could be in the near future.

I also asked Mark if we would be broadcasting in High Definition. He said we may in the future, but to do so right now would not be a good business move. Why? Because broadcasting in HD takes about 10 times the bandwidth that New Screen is currently operating. That means a cable station like the one mentioned in the article would have to drop 10 regular stations in order to make room for 1 HD station. So, keeping the smaller bandwidth will give us a better chance to gain affiliates with smaller cable networks.

There are a couple of really good things from the article as well.

"After converting WRCF-TV Channel 29 to an outlet for independent films and videos in 2004, he and partners Mark Astrom and Naseem Shah planned to target satellite and cable operators as potential carriers for their original content."

This passage says they are "partners" so it would be safe to assume that Erikson and Shah own stock in the company. That gives me more confidence that Erikson is in for the long haul and this time he's going to be the one making the big dollars(unlike when Direct Tv made the big dough).

"He currently is talking with Pan American Satellite and SES Americom about uplinking content for distribution. Once the satellite negotiations are completed, Erickson says New Screen will have the capacity to uplink to all cable, satellite and fiber-to-the-home distributors in North America, part of the company's long-term goal of reaching 50 million paying households in the U.S. and abroad."

Well, now they have named who they are negotiating with to provide satellite uplink.
