We part company on your analysis.

Carter started no new wars.
I agree Camp David was a biggy- but so were his treaties with China, and Panama (and I think giving back the canal was probably a good thing- I see no reason why the US should continue to own bits and pieces of other countries we have acquired nefariously. I mean whipping up a revolution so we could take over the canal? No, I can't say I see the canal issue the way you do. It's much less important now, anyway, since the 300k ton tankers of today can't fit through it anyway. )

"Carter worked for nuclear-arms control. His concern for international human rights was credited with saving lives and reducing torture, and he supported the British policy that ended internecine warfare in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. Domestically, his environmental record was a major accomplishment. His judicial appointments won acclaim, with 265 choices for the federal bench that included minority members and women. "

After his presidency he carved out a very wholesome niche for himself.

In retrospect I'd prefer President Carter's mistakes any day of the week to Mr. Bush's mistakes. But that's me.
