You don't need margin to daytrade in a cash account. You just need to have enough cash in the account to cover the buy. Takes them three days to put their hands on the cash, file it, take it out, put hands on it again, then return it to your account. I day trade in my IRAs all the time. To short, you must have margin, however. So next time you want to do intraday flipping, put a calculator on your balances. Then should be no problem.
