Many libertarians favor an open drug society. While they decry the costs of the war on drugs, they ignore the societal costs of legalization. These include increased medical costs to treat the afflicted, as well as costs associated with education, regulation and enforcement -- not to mention the damage to our youth. We already have a major problem with teen drinking -- why double it by promoting and increasing access to drugs?

The other issue is that moderation, which is widely practiced with alcohol, is not an option for most currently illegal drugs. Not for pot, heroin or acid. Getting high is getting high.
