I'm not advocating any particular scheme of gun regulation. I am only suggesting that the idea is not illogical or without precedent.

For instance, we require drivers to demonstrate certain skills and awareness of safety issues before they are allowed to legally operate a vehicle. Vehicle owners are not (legally) allowed to knowingly assign the use of their vehicle to those whom are unqualified in such usage. So the question of gun regulation is one that may be legitimately examined without violating any amendment rights.

Again--even fanatics for "GUN FREEDOM" can be led to understand that there are limits to what degree a citizen can arm himself and his friends with weaponry. Even fanatics for "GUN FREEDOM" can be led to understand that giving a loaded gun to a retarded child is criminal.

So it is not a question of IF guns ought to be regulated as to purchase and usage--but HOW they ought to be regulated.
