M, your focus on majority is way off base. They're trying to protect their profits from the one or two percent or so who would buy less. You don't need a majority to change your policy. If you have one percent of your potential customers that are too tall to fit in the fitting rooms, you alter the fitting rooms. You don't wait until a majority are too tall.

As I said in my last post, we're talking about small margins, here. If each non-Christian customer buys just one fewer item per trip or makes one fewer trip because that person subconsciously gets a message that dampens his shopping spirit, that adds up to a big loss for the store. They want everyone to feel good about shopping. They will do anything from changing the paint color to changing the greeting to eke out that last percent or two.
