As I said in my last post, we're talking about small margins, here. If each non-Christian customer buys just one fewer item per trip or makes one fewer trip because that person subconsciously gets a message that dampens his shopping spirit, that adds up to a big loss for the store. They want everyone to feel good about shopping. They will do anything from changing the paint color to changing the greeting to eke out that last percent or two.

You could change non-Christian to Christian and be just as close. What you fail to address is that those offended Christians are just as powerful monetarily as the anti-merry Christmas crowd. What is it that drives the decision regarding who to offend if not polls and studies?
