Hitler got dragged into the war against England. He didn't want it and said so repeatedly. He considered the English blood brothers. But England declared war on Germany following the invasion of Poland.

I'm not really disputing what you say, I've just never heard it. But if it was oral only, it is entirely possible he did say it and no record exists of it except a musty old newspaper report or a crumbling newsreel.

Actually, the US Army hit Germans when they should have hit Italians earlier than the invasion of Italy. Those Germans Patton fought in north Africa were there to bail out the Italians. Again.
